IRVINE, Calif. (May 28, 2008) – The Hass Avocado Board (HAB) recently launched a nutrition-oriented section on its Website dedicated entirely to educating consumers about the health benefits of Hass avocados. The goal of the HAB’s new nutrition Microsite, which can be found at avocadocentral.com/healthandnutrition, is to create awareness about the nutritional advantages of incorporating Hass avocados into consumers’ diets.
“I think the HAB has a responsibility as an industry leader to inform consumers about the nutritional benefits of avocados,” said Jose Luis Obregon, managing director of the HAB. “I’m so pleased that we now have a resource that provides consumers with Hass avocado nutritional information and recipes that offer easy ways to incorporate the fruit into a healthy lifestyle. This nutrition-focused content is just another testament to the HAB’s commitment to educating consumers about Hass avocados.”
The new HAB nutrition Microsite includes Hass avocado recipe ideas, the latest nutrition news about the fruit, information about how Hass avocados can help consumers meet the requirements of the USDA Dietary Guidelines for Americans and background on how Hass avocados can serve as a component of a diet that helps to keep hearts healthy and may even help with weight management. The new nutrition section also includes an “Ask the Expert” feature, where Julie Upton, R.D, who serves as a nutritional consultant to the HAB, answers frequently asked nutrition questions about Hass avocados.
The HAB’s new nutrition Microsite is a tool that will proactively promote Hass avocados online to a growing health-conscious consumer audience, encouraging consumption of the fruit as a healthy lifestyle choice year around. The HAB will highlight the Microsite in all of its nutrition promotional efforts as a resource where consumers can find avocado nutritional information and recipes. The HAB also will drive traffic to the Microsite through the placement of online banners located on other key health-oriented Websites.
