Avocado Geeks
Welcome to the Avocado Geeks posts, only on the Hass Avocado Board LinkedIn Page feed. If you have not seen our “Avocado Insights” yet – you need to!!
Who are the “GEEKS???
Well that would be HAB staffers…

Emiliano Escobedo
Executive Director

Alejandro Gavito
Sr. Business Insights and Data Services Manager

John McGuigan
Director of Industry Affairs
…three amigos that talk about geeky avocado data, information, and research all the time, and occasionally to draw insights into the avocado space that no one else is talking about, or finding a unique perspective that can help others drive the category from their spot on the supply chain.
What will the GEEKS do?
Our insights will focus on quarters and holidays and will seek to expose metrics that no one else is talking about. We will post Holiday Analysis, Shopper Data, and Regional Composite Reports, that may help you find hidden, or obscure insights into the upcoming periods, based on what we learned from the past, that you turn into future opportunities!
Two quarters prior, the Geeks will look at regional composite reports (e.g. in Q1 2024 look at Q3 2023). We will look at data for the Total US and each of the 8 regions. We will highlight two or three regions (e.g. total US vs highest performing region vs lowest performing region in terms of Units, Dollars and ASP). Within each region, we will look at the product mix (PLU + Bag units, dollars and ASP). When necessary, we will look into the following data to provide additional commentary: Market level data (e.g. San Diego, Los Angeles, for California Region). Avocado Seasonality Driver Study Data (Penetration, Trips, Spend per trip, by Quarter), Regional Demographic data, Shopper Segmentation Data, Holiday data.
When the Geeks meet, we will also look at holidays taking place in the next 2 quarters. We will pick up one or two holidays per quarter and perform an analysis (units, dollars and asp by region and PLU insight for the holiday) and share our findings.
What do the GEEKS hope to provide?
Our intent is to provide high quality analysis of the above metrics and bring it to the supply chain stakeholders that can turn it into actionable information to help drive your avocado business. We all get so busy in our daily grind that sometimes it might be hard to find time to do the dirty work of data and information analysis to uncover ideas, opportunities, and chances to use the analysis to take actions with your retail customers with informed and eye-catching ideation.
So check us out, see if we can uncover any ideas or opportunities for you to use the GEEKS insights into a plan of action for you and your team!
