Celebrating a Year of Scientific Achievement at the Avocado Nutrition Center
The Avocado Nutrition Center (ANC) has made remarkable strides this year, further solidifying its position as a leader in avocado research. Eight studies were published in 2024, advancing our understanding of the health benefits of whole fresh Hass avocados. Highlights include findings on gut microbiome changes from six months of avocado consumption, associations between avocado intake and reduced diabetes risk in Mexican adults, and the potential role of avocados in improving diet quality and cardiometabolic health.
Five of these publications stemmed from the Habitual Diet and Avocado Trial (HAT), a large-scale study we supported. Two were led in-house by our epidemiologist, Dr. Feon Cheng. Collectively, these studies contribute to the 56 scientific publications generated by the ANC since its founding in 2010, showcasing the broad health benefits of avocado consumption.
Our work continues to grow. Currently, 11 studies are enrolling participants or analyzing data within our four health pillars: cardiovascular health, weight management, type 2 diabetes, and healthy living at all ages. A preclinical study is underway to explore the key bioactive compounds responsible for avocados’ biological effects.
Our secondary data repository has begun enabling researchers to maximize the value of past studies by facilitating new analyses and publications. This initiative reflects our commitment to producing high-impact, efficient research.
The ANC’s success this year sets the stage for an even more ambitious and productive year ahead. By continuing to lead in avocado research, we aim to deepen public understanding of the nutritional benefits of whole fresh hass avocados and support the industry’s growth.
