IRVINE, Calif., (Oct. 5, 2010) – The Hass Avocado Board (HAB), together with its member organizations,the California Avocado Commission, Chilean Avocado Importers Association and Mexican Hass Avocado Importers Association, will exhibit as a unified group for the first time at the American Dietetic Association’s® (ADA) Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo (FNCE) 2010. HAB’s participation in the conference solidifies its commitment as the leader in Hass avocado nutrition for the industry by promoting the nutritional aspects of the fruit to registered dietitians and healthcare professionals. At the conference, HAB’s booth will serve as a centralized hub of resources where attendees can learn about the key health benefits of Hass avocados, receive resources to share with their patients and sample dishes featuring the fruit. Additionally, HAB will host the official ADA Food and Culinary Professionals (FCP) Dietary Practice Group (DPG) cocktail reception for 300 members and participate in a poster session on new Hass avocado nutrition science.
“This is a historic occasion for the Hass avocado industry,” said Jose Luis Obregon, managing director of HAB. “With all of our member organizations exhibiting together at ADA FNCE 2010, we are able to leverage the resources of the industry to create a central location that healthcare professionals can visit to get tools and resources they need to effectively communicate the nutritional benefits of avocados to the consumers that they interact with on a daily basis.”
Throughout the conference, attendees who stop by the HAB booth will be invited to sample Hass avocado-centric dishes, pick up useful giveaway items and attend book signings by:
- Mitzi Dulan, R.D., CSSD, author of The All-Pro Diet;
- Cheryl Forberg, R.D., author of The Biggest Loser: 6 Weeks to a Healthier You;
- Cynthia Sass, R.D., CSSD, author of Cinch!: Conquer Cravings, Drop Pounds and Lose Inches;
- Julie Upton, R.D., author of Energy to Burn; and
- Liz Weiss, M.S., R.D. and Janice Newell Bissex, M.S. R.D., also known as the “Meal Makeover Moms,” authors of The Mom’s Guide to Meal Makeovers and No Whine with Dinner
“As trusted authorities, consumers look to R.D.s to provide them with nutrition information and dietary guidance,” continued Obregon. “By providing R.D.s with information about the benefits of Hass avocados, we are one step closer to getting the information into consumers’ hands and avocados on their plates.”
The 2010 ADA FNCE will be held at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center from Nov. 7 – 9, 2010. The HAB booth is #2801, which is located in the main exhibition hall. The ADA expects 8,500 R.D.s to attend the conference.
