The Peruvian Avocado

An engaging look at the Avocado industry – through Peru’s perspective

The majority of the Peruvian avocado industry has been developed over the past 15 years, and it has grown to be the second largest exporter of fruit to the United States, as well as the rest of the world. Avocado growers, exporters and importers need to know the future plans for this growing giant, so that all of us can develop demand increasing strategies, with the most accurate information possible, so we are not left unprepared for whatever this country’s future investment brings.

Understand the Peruvian Avocado Industry

To determine what the second largest exporter in the world is capable of now and moving forward, we have fully investigated the supply side capacity of the Peruvian Avocado industry. Having access to both current and potential future fruit supply information will enable the industry to better understand the relationship between key production area avocado availability and demand in the market.

The projections will aid industry groups in putting the appropriate plans and programs in place to promote avocados coming from current and new supply sources.

As announced earlier this year, a partnership between CIRAD and the Hass Avocado Board (HAB) was agreed upon. Country-specific evaluations (like this one about Peru) are the result of conversations with industry stakeholders themselves, their plans, their vision and the opportunities they see for this forward-looking industry. Country Profiles were created so the industry has the fullest, most up to date thinking on what this great industry is going to look like in the coming years.

Use these profiles to make strategic decisions toward maintaining and expanding the avocado market in the United States. You can view all profiles here.

Let’s all plan for the future – together.
