Advancing Avocado Science: New Research Highlights Gut Health Benefits

At the Avocado Nutrition Center (ANC), we’re committed to advancing nutrition science and ensuring the latest research reaches the public. A big part of that mission is moving science through the pipeline—supporting studies, publishing findings, and making the information accessible.
One of our latest supported studies explored how eating avocados daily affects gut health. It evaluated the impact of daily avocado consumption for 6 months on gut microbiota in 230 adults with abdominal obesity. The avocado group showed higher gut microbiota diversity and significant increases in Faecalibacterium prausnitzii and Bacterium AF16_15 compared to controls. Improvements were more pronounced in participants with lower baseline diet quality, highlighting avocados’ potential prebiotic benefits.
This is just one example of how avocados can support well-being, and we’re making sure this science is both credible and available. In fact, we recently published a visual summary of the evidence on avocado health research—giving you a clear, science-backed look at their role in everything from heart health to gut health.
