A “BOLD” Class of Leaders Step Forward to Help Steer the Future of the Avocado Industry
A new generation of leaders has graduated from HAB’s Board Leadership Development (BOLD) program with specialized training and real-world experience that ensures a stronger future for the industry. The robust, year-long program exposes emerging leaders across the supply chain to experts and resources essential to forming a well-rounded understanding of the business and be considered board-ready.
A highlight for the twelve graduates was a two-day, in-person briefing with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) in Washington, D.C. Participants met with leadership from multiple divisions including Transportation and Marketing, Commodity Procurement and Specialty Crops Inspection and now have a deeper understanding of federal regulations and available USDA resources relevant to driving positive change as the industry faces both opportunities and challenges. Empowered by a greater sense of confidence and their genuine passion to help the industry thrive, BOLD class members also embraced this experience as a valuable opportunity to represent the avocado industry to USDA. Through a dynamic exchange of ideas and sharing of insights, the groups discussed how to strengthen the partnership between the avocado industry and government.
As the first and only professional development initiative for the Hass avocado industry, BOLD creates a path for ensuring a sustainable succession of industry leaders. The curriculum, led by industry veterans, expert HAB staff and mentors with avocado board experience, inspires fresh thinking and provides participants with a network of connections and resources to facilitate innovation, thought leadership and effective problem-solving.
Meeting with USDA in-person is one example of how the BOLD program lines up strategic learning opportunities for rising stars to develop a greater command of all the players that make up the industry and how they are related to one another.
