Experts, Insights, and Avocados: ANSA 2025 Recap
The Avocado Nutrition Science Advisory (ANSA) group gathered in San Juan Capistrano on March 25, followed by a hands-on tour of a local avocado grove and packing house on March 26. ANSA is made up of leading researchers with expertise in everything from clinical trial design and wearable tech to diabetes, psychology, cardiovascular health, and more. Their input helps steer the Hass Avocado Board’s (HAB) nutrition science strategy.
The meeting’s goal was to share updates, get expert feedback, and explore new ideas. We also invited external researchers to present findings from 17 ongoing HAB-funded studies at universities nationwide.
The group explored several important topics that could shape how we talk about avocados in the future. These included the growing influence of GLP-1 medications in the food space, the opportunity to expand beyond cardiovascular benefits into areas like cognition and gut health, and how to build a research infrastructure that supports strong, credible science, including a potential best-practices guide and an independent reviewer committee.
Other conversations touched on personalized nutrition, the role of avocados in sustainable diets, their importance as a fiber source for Americans, and exciting connections to aging and longevity.
