Avocados are a good source of fiber and fiber is an important nutrient that has been inversely associated with chronic disease risk factors. Unfortunately, 90% of Americans do not meet the daily recommended amount of fiber, according to the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, and six in ten adults in the United States are living with at least one chronic disease. Exploring how population health might change if the majority of Americans met daily recommended intakes of fiber, HAB staff, Ella Bauer, PhD and Amanda Izquierdo, MPH, RD, LDN, took the stage for the first time at this conference. Over the sponsored breakfast session, The Fiber Effect – Exploring the Link Between Fiber Intake, Gut Health, and Chronic Disease Risk Reduction, which included four delicious Love One Today recipes, attendees learned about the connection between fiber intake, chronic disease prevalence, and the gut microbiome, with avocado nutrition research presented as a case study. The session concluded with ways that they can work with their patients and clients to make fiber recommendations both accessible and attainable.

In late October, HAB will host another sponsored breakfast session for health professionals at the American College of Lifestyle Medicine conference with Avocado Goodness Expert and cardiologist, Dr. David Sabgir.
